Yearly Report and Self-Assessment
FACULTY
EVALUATIONS -- Rationale
The
objective of the faculty evaluations is to provide criteria for the evaluation
of teaching performance of each faculty member and the promotion of
professional growth and development. The forms required for the evaluation
process include Professional Development Plan, Peer Observation Report
Instructor and Course Evaluation Form, and Faculty Self‑Assessment. The
faculty member will include the syllabi for all courses taught The evaluation
process includes the following steps:
1. All
faculty members will begin the academic year by producing a proposed plan of
professional development. 'Ibis 'information is provided on the Professional
Development Plan form.
2. Full‑
and part‑time faculty members, who have taught at St. Gregory's
University for three or more years, will be evaluated every other year.
First‑year faculty members including the adjunct faculty will be
evaluated each semester. New faculty members will be evaluated annually for
the second and third years of teaching.
3. The
Division Chair and faculty member should choose class or classes to be
evaluated. The evaluation process may be conducted either fall or spring
semester.
4. The
academic peer observation of a selected class should be conducted between the
5' and 9' week of classes. The peer may be an external or internal colleague.
a.
The faculty member chooses a peer to assist with the observation of a
specified class.
b. The
peer attends the class to be evaluated and observes the faculty member's
teaching. The peer makes notes and records the information on the Peer
Observation Report form.
c. The
peer schedules a convenient time to visit with the faculty member about the
class observation.
d. The
faculty member writes a brief reflection of the peer observation. The
reflection is provided on the Faculty Self Assessment form.
5. After
the 12th week of classes, the student evaluations are administered utilizing
the Instructor and Course Evaluation form. The faculty member may provide
additional questions to the student evaluations. The faculty member will
provide a reflection of the student evaluations. This reflection is recorded
on the Faculty Self‑Assessment form.
6. The
syllabi for all courses taught by the faculty member will be included in the
evaluation materials. The Division Chair may request additional resources,
such as tests, grading assessment techniques, project descriptions, or other
materials.
7. Both
the Division Chair and Associate Dean review the evaluation materials, and
brief summaries from each are attached to the evaluation materials.
8. The
Division Chair and/or Associate Dean meet with the faculty member to discuss
the evaluation materials. The Professional Development Plan form for the
academic year will be reviewed, and the outcomes are recorded on the Faculty
Self Assessment form.
9.
Upon faculty request, a copy and summary of the evaluation materials
‑‑Professional Development Plan, Peer Observation Report,
Instructor and Course Evaluation and Faculty Self‑Assessment
‑‑‑ are forwarded to the Vice President for Academic Affairs
and placed in the faculty member's personnel file.
