Course Description: This course is designed as a seminar for Senior level majors in Health Promotions, Recreation, Sports Psychology, Sports Administration, and Sports Medicine. Skills related to creating a resume, writing a letter of application, preparing for the worksite and or graduate school, and developing interview skills will be cultivated.

Objectives:
§ Students will develop a cover letter.
§ Students will develop a professional resume.
§ Students will develop an online resume and video clip for their web page.
§ Students will find online jobs in the field of health, recreation, and sports med.
§ Students will develop a personal mission statement and corresponding goals.
§ Students will identify organizations that support professional development in their career field.
§ Students will learn the art of interview and self-marketing skills.
§ Students will develop their senior portfolio.
Textbook: None. Reading material, web addresses, and portfolio examples will be provided by the instructor.
Supplies: Three-ring binder, plastic sheet protectors, resume/cover letter paper and accompany style envelopes, and a blank CD.
Course Requirements: Class projects will include development of a personal mission statement, career objectives, resume, cover letter, collecting and writing letters of recommendation, mock interviews, personal video clips, researching job banks and physical job addresses, developing a senior portfolio, and burning that portfolio with any video clips onto a CD.
Grading Criteria: Students will be graded on ability to utilize on line services, presentations, literature search, class participation, and development of a senior portfolio. Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the date determined by the instructor. Papers turned in late will have points deducted according to the late assignment policy.

Instructor and University Policies:
Attendance Policy: In accordance with St. Gregory's University policy, students will be sent a warning after two absences and are subject to being dropped from the class after the third absence.
Late Assignment Policy: Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the scheduled due date. The following policy will be implemented for late assignments.
One day late - subtract 5%
2-5 days late - subtract 10%
6-9 days late - subtract 20%
10-13 days late - subtract 40%
14-17 days late - subtract 60%
Papers over 17 days late will not be accepted.
Tobacco, cell phone, and pager policy: No form of tobacco will be allowed in class. Cell phones may not be used and must be turned off during class. Students may not leave class to answer a page once class has begun.
