Course Syllabus: Yoga
Course Description: The course is designed to improve flexibility, posture, balance, and the mind/body connection. Breathing techniques, basic sun salutation positions, and some intermediate positions will be introduced. Relaxation and meditation will conclude each class period.
Objectives: By the end of the semester, students will know how to

| Perform sitting yoga poses. |
| Do relaxation poses. |
| Do basic meditation. |
| Do yoga breathing. |
Textbook: None – Handouts will be given throughout the semester.
Supplies: 1 blanket and/or towel
Course Requirements: Students will be graded on class participation, upkeep of a spiritual wellness journal, emailing a copy of that journal to the instructor one time/month (Sept 14, October 12, November 16, December 7) and a final exam.
Grading Criteria: Students will be given 5 points for each class attended and are expected to attend at least 20 classes during the semester. Students will also need to keep a spiritual wellness journal (at least 1 entries/week – 15 total for the semester) and email it to the instructor by noon on Feb. 2nd, March 2nd, April 6th, and May 4th. Things to include in the spiritual journal are prayer, attendance of mass or religious services, items the student is grateful for, volunteer experiences, or other spiritually meaningful experiences. Students will receive 10 points for each entry and must have a minimum of 15 entries during the semester. Each email will be worth 25 points each. A final exam worth 100 points will be given during finals week in the W.P. Wood Field house (big gym). Time/Date to be determined.

Instructor and University Policies:

Attendance Policy: In accordance with St. Gregory's University policy, students will be sent a warning after two absences and are subject to being dropped from the class after the third absence. Tardiness will be treated like an absence. |

Late Assignment Policy: Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the scheduled due date. The following policy will be implemented for late assignments. |
| 1 day late- subtract 5% |
| 2-5 days late- subtract 10% |
| 6-9 days late- subtract 20% |
| 10-13 days late- subtract 40% |
| 14-17 days late- subtract 60% |
| Papers over 17 days late will not be accepted. |

Tobacco, cell phone, and pager policy: No form of tobacco will be allowed in class. Cell phones/pagers may not be used and must be turned off during class. Students may not leave class to answer a page once class has begun. |
| Eating Policy: Due to the physical nature of this class, students are strongly encouraged to eat something nutritional 2 ½ -3 hours before class. Eating or drinking anything (water is okay) from 0-2 ½ hours before class can cause nausea, dizziness, and poor performance |
